Room for more of you / An optional practice

Make room for something you miss.

A small invitation to rest, play, imagine, listen, or ask for help—without deciding that a hidden trait explains your life.

An invitation to try

“Is there something I would like a little more room for?”

Notice an interest, not a diagnosis.

Perhaps you miss making things, laughing with a friend, asking a question, or having an unhurried afternoon. Perhaps nothing comes to mind. This page cannot tell you that you have hidden part of yourself or explain why.

Look for something you want, rather than another version of yourself you think other people need.

A few possibilities.

  • Listen for a while without having to offer an answer.
  • Sketch an idea without committing to a project.
  • Make room for play that everyone involved actually wants.
  • Ask a willing adult for help with something specific.
  • Take some rest without having to earn it first.

These are examples, not personality categories. You can want something else entirely.

Make it small enough to choose.

What would need to move, be shared, or be left undone? If another person is involved, ask rather than arranging their participation for them.

If you are a parent, keep adult responsibilities with adults. A child does not need to comfort you, approve a change, or carry your worries so that you can be honest.

You need not disclose private experiences or try this in a relationship where doing so feels unsafe.

A note of permission, not a contract.

One possible way to make room: ________________________

Support or a practical change I might need: ________________________

Something I am not agreeing to: ________________________

Print this if it helps; nothing is saved here. You can revise the note or put it away. It is not a commitment to become more available to everyone else.

Ask how it was for you.

Did it feel welcome? Was the timing workable? Would you like to try again, change it, or leave it there?

A quiet preference is enough. You do not need your family to notice a transformation for the choice to matter.

If you want to keep going

Begin with your own words.

The optional reflection brings together what you write. It does not send it to a coach or save it to an account.
