A working map / An optional practice

Seven elements. Your own story.

A way to notice the shape of what matters—not seven boxes you must complete or a sequence you have to follow.

An invitation to try

“Does this map help you see anything more clearly?”

A map you can question.

The hero’s journey gives us language for a recurring story pattern. Here are the seven elements used in this approach. You can start wherever something feels relevant, disagree with an interpretation, or leave a question open.

A parent can reflect on their own story while staying curious about a child’s. Neither person needs to assign the other a role or stage.

What the words point toward.

01 / Protagonist
You, with your own view, values and circumstances. “What matters to me here?”
02 / Shift
Something changes, or asks for attention. “What feels different, or no longer fits?”
03 / Quest
A direction you care about. “What would I like to move toward?”
04 / Allies
People whose support and perspectives matter. “Who could I ask—and what matters to them?”
05 / Challenge
What makes this difficult, in your words. “What is getting in the way?”
06 / Transformation
Something you learn, understand differently, or come to do differently. “What, if anything, is changing?”
07 / Legacy
What your actions leave with other people. “What might they carry from this?” It can be small; it is not a demand for a grand achievement.

Where does a mentor fit?

A mentor can be one of your allies: someone whose perspective helps, without taking over the choices that are yours. Mentor is not an extra element replacing Shift in this seven-element map.

Wayfinder works in a coaching role. It is software, not a person, and its interpretation is something you can question—not an authority on who you are.

Use one question. Leave the rest.

Pick a question that helps you notice something. Write a few words privately, talk with someone willing to listen, or simply carry it into your day.

For the research behind the pattern and the limits of what it tells us, read the research note. This map is not a diagnosis or proof that the app works for every person.

If you want to keep going

Begin with your own words.

The optional reflection brings together what you write. It does not send it to a coach or save it to an account.
